History of our College

Govt. Arts and Science College Kozhinjampara is situated in the Tamil Linguistic Minority area of Kozhinjampara village, bordering Tamil Nadu. The college was established in 2005 as deliverance of a long pending demand of local people for having a higher educational institution to meet their educational aspirations. The efforts and generous contributions of local people and elected representatives especially the MLA of Chittur Assembly Constituency is noteworthy in its inception. The college offers 4 UG Programs and 1 PG Program with total student strength of approximately 550. Nearly 80% of the students come from the nearby rural areas and 85% of the students are studying with e-Grants and Scholarships from the Government. About 90% of students are Girls and a Girls’ hostel is functioning in the campus which accommodates nearly 70 students at present. The college has got recognition by the UGC under 2f and 12b of UGC Act . The college has an NSS Unit with 100 students which actively participates in the social service activities and engagements. The college is making its presence felt in the inter collegiate competitions of Arts and Sports events of University of Calicut and is the winner of many championships especially in Athletics, Kabadi and Roller Skating. The College has a consistent track record of academic result of 85% to 95% in University Exams with Ranks in the Graduate and Post Graduate Microbiology programmes

Timeline
  • 22/07/2005 – Sanction from the Higher Education Department for starting  the College  with three UG Courses ( B Com with specialisation on Travel and Tourism , BA Functional English, and B Sc Microbiology)  – GO(MS) No 98/2005/H Edn. dated 22/07/2005
  • 22/08/2005 – Provisional affiliation received from the Calicut University.
  • 13/09/2005- Classes started in the Community Hall of Chittur Block Panchayath.
  • 09-10-2005 – Formal inauguration of the college by the former Chief Minister Sri Oommen Chandy and laying of foundation for the college building under the Asset Development fund of MLA.
  • 10/11/2006 – Post creation of Non-Teaching Staff was made as per GO(MS) 145/2006/H Edn. Dated 10/11/2006
  • 21/01/2008- Teaching posts were created as per GO (MS) 6/2008/H Edn. dated 21/01/2008 and the first batch of teachers appointed through PSC joined duty during March 2008.
  • 2008 – Regular Classes and College Office shifted fully to the newly constructed college building.
  • 2009-10 – Choice Based Credit and Semester System introduced for UG
  • 2009-10 – Specialization of B Com changed to Finance.
  • 2009-10- NSS Unit started functioning in the college.
  • 2009-10 – Computer Lab of the college inaugurated.
  • 2012- M Sc Microbiology PG Course started.
  • 2013- Permanent Affiliation for all the three UG Programs (B Com Finance, B A Functional English, and B Sc Microbiology) received from the Calicut University
  • 2013- Construction of Girls’ Hostel completed
  • 2013- Construction of New Academic Block completed and Classes of Commerce and English  Departments shifted to Academic Block
  • 2016- Co-operative Store started in the college
  • 2017- Got 2(f), 12(b) recognition from the UGC
  • 2017-2018 – Girls’ Hostel started functioning
  • 2021- Research Centre of Microbiology started
