INTRODUCTION

Tamil Mandram of Govt. Arts and Science College, Kozhinjampara started functioning
in 2016. The significance of such a forum is enhanced by the geographical importance of the
place where the institution is located. It is the boundary area between Kerala and Tamilnadu,
and also, several Tamil Minority students have been studying Tamil as a main and a second
language paper. Tamil Mandram has conducted various programmes since 2016. Pongal is
the major festival that is celebrated in an auspicious and grand manner by the forum. Several
academic programmes and literary competitions like poem writing, essay writing, short
story writing, elocution etc. have also been organised at several other occasions.

OBJECTIVES
● To improve students’ creative skill in Tamil language.
● To promote the students’ quality of Reading and Writing in Tamil.
● To provide the opportunity to students to present their own works.
● To introduce and instil the richness of Tamil Culture and Language.

MEMBERS
Tamil Mandram includes all students of the Dept. of Tamil and the Second Language students
of various other Departments.

 ACTIVITY REPORT: 2022-23 

                                                                                      Pongal Celebration 2022-23

Pongal is a harvest festival celebrated by the Tamil community. It is a celebration to thank
the Sun, Mother Nature and the various farm animals that help to contribute to harvest. Pongal
Celebration conducted by Tamil Mandram annually in our college on 20/01/2023 at college campus.
In connection with the Pongal celebration Tamil Mandram has conducted a week-long programmes
and competitions such as poem writing, essay writing, short story writing and elocution. The
celebrations started with the preparation of the traditional and delicious Pongal dish by teachers and
students. Then it was offered to the Sun God and everyone prayed for their future prosperity. After
pooja and offerings, the Pongal was served to all the teachers, students, and non-teaching staffs of the
college. After that Tamil students performed the traditional dance form ‘Kummi’ and also conducted
Tug of War. Afternoon session of the celebration started with prize distributions of various
competitions conducted in connection with the Pongal Celebration by the principal Smt. Amala A K.
The celebrations end up with the various cultural programmes of the students staged at the college
auditorium.

                                                                Mahakavi Bharathiar 140th Birthday Celebration

Tamil Mandram organized the celebration of Mahakavi Bharathiar birthday on 11-12-2022.
Principal Smt. Amala A. K. delivered the presidential address and a talk was given by the
Umamakheswari K, HoD on the topic ‘Bharathiar Potruthum’. Then student’s cultural programmes
like recitation, songs and quiz about Bharathiar’s works were conducted.

                                                                  Guest Lecture on Research Methodology (Offline)

Topic: “Aayvu Muraiyiyal”

The event began with Tamil Prayer. Dr. Chithra S gave Welcome Speech, then the keynote
address by Umamakheswari K, HoD Department of Tamil. Dr. Salma Mehajabeen T M gave Lecture
on “Aayvu Muraiyiyal” (Research Methodology). She describes elaborately how to conduct a proper
Research with its Steps. Students are very much interested to interact with the Guest. The session
ended with a vote of thanks by Jeni Sophiya.D, 3rd Year B. A. student on behalf of the Department.

Online Guest Lecture

Head, Department of Tamil, Govt. College Kariavattom, Thiruvananthapuram.

Topic: “Naadaga Aakka Muyarchikalum, Mu. Ramasamiyin ‘Rawthiram Pazhagu’
Meetruvakkamum”

Google Meet Link: moh-hwvp-zqa. The Program was conducted through Google Meet. The Welcome
speech gave by Smt. Umamakheswari K. Dr. Jithendran gave a lecture on Drama and history of Tamil
Drama. He discusses elaborately about the techniques in Mu.Ramasami’s ‘Rowdhiram Pazhagu’.
Finally, the Lecture ended with vote of thanks by Dhanya M., 2nd Year B.A Tamil Student.

Padaippu Kalam and Vasippu Muttram

It was one of the programmes to express students’ skills on reading, writing and criticism.
Students get a chance to explore more on Tamil literature & it improves the reading Habits among
them. Students presented their works like poem, essays, Book reviews, movie review and debates. It
also created a way of student’s interaction amongst them. As a part of this, 7 sessions were conducted
by the Tamil Mandram on weekly basis.

                    Tamil Mandram Inauguration and Mahakavi Bharathiar Birthday Celebration

Topic: Bharathiarin Kavi Aalumai

Tamil Mandram inaugurated by Principal Smt. Amala A.K. Umamakheswari K. HoD of Tamil,
gave a welcome speech. Ramesh K. (IQAC Coordinator), Dr. Nisha Lekshmi P (HoD of Hindi), and
Sajeesh M (Dept. of Physical Education) are felicitated. The Chief Guest of the function Mr. Stalin was
elaborately point out the poetic sense of Bharathiar. He quoted Bharathiar Kavithaikal in his speech.
Thirupathi R, of 1st BA gave the vote of thanks. Literary competition was conducted on Bharathiar
Literary Works.
